Legendary Reds striker Albert Stubbins has died at the age of 83. He was top scorer as we won our the first of our post-War league titles in 1946-47 and was famous for his bravery (his diving header from the edge of the box on an ice-bound pitch in the FA Cup v Birmingham City has gone down in folklore). He also achieved cult fame of sorts when he appeared on the cover of The Beatles Sgt. Pepper album. ILSA would like to pass on our condolences to his family and friends.

This Saturday (30th November) saw the inaugural HJC Cup at The Pitz in Everton Valley. The day was an overwhelming success and it was the “Red Storm” team who, despite losing their first game, came through to triumph and lift the trophy. The winning team was captained by Denno and triumphed in spite of (or perhaps because of) Karl being injured before he could kick a ball. The tournament ran very smoothly and was testament to hard work and organisation put in by Karl Baxter, Chris Dennett, Craig Mansfield and Bachi Harsh, as well as everybody else involved in the organisation.

Following the tournament, the players and supporters retired to the bar, for the presentations. Anne Williams turned up to present the trophies to the winners (and losers) and it was good for Anne to see the support for her case amongst Liverpool fans. Sarah Deane had gone to a lot of time and effort (as well as expense) to prepare a buffet for all those who had attended, and a big well done and thank you is due to her.

Karl then proceeded to extract as much money out of as many people as possible with a series of raffles and auctions. The response to this from everybody in the room was again outstanding, with some people even ‘winning’ prizes and donating them back to the cause. Thanks to all those who bid and donated, including Liverpoolfc.tv who donated a signed Sammi Hyppia poster which raised nearly £50.

A final big thank you to Phil Johnson, whoses generous donation to the cause, ensured that the tournament could go ahead.

Thanks to everyone who organised, played, supported, publicised and attended the tournament. The hard work that everyone put in raised over £1300 for the Hillsborough Justice Campaign. This money will be used to help the families, survivors and supporters campaigning for justice for the 96 people who died at Sheffield Wednesday football ground on 15th April 1989.
