European away game info - the club released the following statement
today:
"We would like to remind supporters that the Club strongly advises
that travel arrangements for away European fixtures should not be
confirmed until they have received notice from the Club that their
application for tickets has been successful.
"Liverpool F.C. has made application to both Galatasaray and
Barcelona for the maximum number of tickets each of these Clubs allow
for visiting supporters and it is anticipated that Liverpool F.C.
will receive confirmation of the allocation and the tickets in the
very near future. It is anticipated that the demand for tickets for
the match in Barcelona will exceed the allocation of approximately
3000 tickets.
"Selling notices for each of the above-mentioned fixtures will
be published and priority will be given to supporters who have travelled
to away UEFA Champions League fixtures this season. Due to the current
membership of the European Travel Club exceeding the anticipated allocations
from both Galatasaray and Barcelona and in order to minimize disappointment
Liverpool F.C. has invoked its right to suspend membership to the
European Travel Club."
ILSA supports the loyalty element of this announcement - fans who have
travelled to Haka, Boavista, Dortmund etc should be given priority when
it comes to later European aways.
We also welcome the clarification regarding ETC membership - we requested
an announcement be made at our meeting with Rick Parry regarding the
Barcelona game, with applications already far exceeding the likely ticket
allocation.

Been rumours flying around that Liverpool v Everton has been shifted
to a 12pm kick off for pay per view - can't find any evidence of this
- Sky have a live game that morning anyway and tickets have already
been printed and distributed so the rumour is best ignored.
18/1/02
Our preliminary report on the meeting with Rick Parry has been added
- it's not final as there's a few additions to be made yet but we did
say it would be up on Friday so here goes Parry

From today's Liverpool
Echo:
Spotlight on options for Reds' stadium by Jane Woodhead
A feasability study is being carried out into Liverpool Football Club's
new stadium proposals. The study, commisioned by the club and Liverpool
City Council, will look in detail at the two options being considered:
Liverpool expanding its existing site
A new stadium being built in Stanley Park
The results are expected to be made public in March. Peter Bevington,
project manager for the Anfield and Breckfield Community Steering Group
which was launched in 1999 to canvas the views of local people over
the regeneration of the area, said: "This study will look at the
technical and financial feasibilty of the two options and the contributions
which either of them could make to regeneration".
"We are expecting more information to come out of this study to
help people to understand the importance of the club's proposals for
the area, including any additional value which the club could bring
to the area."
An 18-month public consultation with local residents and businesses
showed people remain divided over the club's future and whether they
would like to see the new stadium developed on the existing site or
moved to the park. Mr Bevington has said there is probably also a small
minority who would like to see the club move out of the area entirely.
Liverpool Football Club has said it is commited to staying in Anfield
- either on its current site or in Stanley Park.

The club has announced that Arsenal and Leeds away are now sold out.

FA Cup allocations - we've had a look into this in the light of the
rumours flying around last week. Basically the grapvine suggested we'd
turned down 8000 tickets for Arsenal away and accepted 2000 (though
why would Liverpool turn down tickets?). A mythical 25% of the oppositions
capacity was quoted.
Under the FA Cup regulations we are entitled to 15% of the opposition
ground capacity, subject to safety and security issues (e.g. the Mancs
have received less then 15% for Boro due to the pitch invasions at Villa).
LFC received 5235 tickets from Arsenal which is approximately 15% of
Highbury as we were entitled to. Hope that clears up the confusion!

The ILSA-Parry report should be up on Friday - apologies for the delay!

ILSA has been asked to help out with some research being undertaken
by the Football Unit at Liverpool University. They're looking into the
way football fans are policed when travelling abroad to support their
team. They're already started working with fans of other clubs in Europe
but with our recent experiences in the UEFA Cup last season (e.g. problems
at Athens airport, Roma) and Champions League games this year they feel
we would have plenty of information and data to help them in their research.
ILSA supports this work as it will provide information that actually
leads to people making improvements. The researchers have an online
questionaire which we'd ask you to fill in if you have time, and feel
free to get in touch with them if you anything else to add. We hope
to set up a couple of meetings with the researchers as well so that
interested fans can relate their experiences.
Football Unit, University of Liverpool
We are a group of researchers who would like to hear from you if
you have travelled abroad to watch your team in the last few years
and have views on the way the local police treated you before, during
or after watching the game.
We are particularly keen to hear from you if you have been, or are
planning to go, to any of this season's Champions league games.
You can contact us in various ways. You can leave a completely anonymous
message or fill in an anonymous online survey for us on our website

You can contact us by email c.stott@liv.ac.uk

Your views are important so please get in touch. Please note: We
are independent researchers based at the University of Liverpool.
We are simply seeking to document as accurately as possible the experiences
of fans. To do this we attend football matches both in the UK and
continental Europe, observing the behaviour of the police and of fans
and talking to fans about themselves and their experiences. All the
information we record is treated with absolute anonymity. Under no
circumstance will any incriminating details about specific activity
or person be passed on to any police force, club or football authority.

ILSA had it's first meeting with LFC today. We were invited in to chat
to Rick Parry for what was anticipated to be a quick introduction on
our part, explaining who ILSA were and why we were formed, but turned
into a wide-ranging discussion on many fan issues over the course on
an hour and a half. It was a highly encouraging meeting with a man who
is clearly a fan of the club as well as being an astute Chief Executive.
We'll put a full report of the meeting on the website in the next couple
of days.
7/1/02
We've drawn Arsenal away in the FA Cup but the date/time is yet to be

off in light of the trouble at the Cardiff-Leeds game.

There are still tickets available on general sale for the FA Cup tie
against Birmingham at Anfield on Saturday - telephone 0870 220 0056.

Season ticket holder info - we've been informed that from February all
season ticket holders will be asked to show their book at the turnstiles.
If you just bring the voucher there is a strong possibility that
you will not be admitted to the ground.
