ILSA
Newsletter September 30th 2001 - Issue 3
Welcome
to the third of our monthly newsletters. The aim of the newsletter
remains one of keeping members informed on campaigns ILSA is undertaking,
providing news on the latest communications with LFC and other bodies,
and also acting as a means of soliciting help and gathering suggestions
and ideas on what ILSA should be doing for you.
Communications
with Liverpool
There
is no change in the state of play with regards to comment/answers
from Liverpool. We still await a response to the many questions we
have asked on your behalf in a series of communications. It has been
suggested to us that shareholders might like to raise the issue of
fan consultation in general at the next LFC AGM - if you are a shareholder
and would like to help get in touch.
ILSA
website
We've
had a bit of a revamp on the site since the last newsletter. You should
now find up to date information on the front page in a latest news
section and other pages such as European away travel information have
been added. You'll also find the previous newsletters there.
The
Football Licensing Authority and Away Ticketing
Just
to recap from the last newsletter the Football Licensing Authority
(FLA) was about to ask for reduced away ticketing in the Premier League
(due to persistent standing) in a report they had produced. Since
then the Football Supporters Association (FSA) has had a meeting with
the FLA as a result of which the report has been withdrawn before
publication and is being rewritten. Input from various ISAs and the
FSA helped "crystallise" the problems associated with barring/reducing
away fans - away fans in home areas, large numbers of ticketless fans
outside grounds, security issues - it is to be hoped that the FLA
will produce a more sensible set of proposals.
Eurofans
We
received an email from the Bayern Munich fans association Club Number
12 a few weeks back inviting us to join a fledgling organisation called
Eurofans. Eurofans is a new football fans initiative open to supporters
of any European club, but which places specific emphasis on those
competing in European competition. Eurofans deals with the main problems
of European football fans such as ticketing, stewarding and the consequences
of a potential European Super League.
Eurofans
are lobbying UEFA for fan input into their proposed changes to the
two European competitions particularly in light of falling attendances
and declining TV audiences. We are also campaigning for standardised
policies for fair ticket pricing and allocation for visiting supporters
and the right to travel independently to games in other European countries
by separation of the sales of travel arrangements and match tickets.
The
other founding members are:
Club
Nr.12 - FC Bayern München, Germany
Elefant
Blau - FC Barcelona, Spain
Football
Unites, Racism Divides - Sheffield United FC, England
IMUSA
- Manchester United FC, England
Schalker
Fan-Initiative - FC Schalke 04, Germany
Initial
contact has also been made with Dortmund fans which will be followed
up at the match at Anfield and contact with the Roma fans group is
looking positive. There are a couple of ways you could help us in
this project - either by acting as ILSA representatives for informal
meetings (normally over a few beers) at Euro aways or if you can boast
fluency in a language other than English and can help with some small
pieces of translation/emails.
Loyalty
Schemes
There
looks like we have some good news on this front. Those of you who
have bought away tickets from the ticket office this season will have
been asked for names/addresses. The club has said it is collating
the information so that it can introduce a loyalty scheme for away
fixtures next season - one of the main ideas ILSA has asked the club
to consider. We are trying to find out more information on this proposed
scheme.
In
another promising move Liverpool have reverted to a stub system for
the Champions League fixtures. Those with a Haka stub were guaranteed
a Boavista ticket; those with a Boavista stub were guaranteed a Kiev
ticket etc. Due to the poor attendances so far those going to the
earlier games have not really benefited from this loyalty but should
we progress further the system should reward those who have gone to
the "less glamorous" fixtures. The club have indicated a
similar system will be in place for the Worthington Cup ties.
Helping
ILSA
We
are always looking for volunteers. Whether you have some expertise
we could use (e.g. graphics, publicity, web design) or have the willingness
to hand out contact details/leaflets for ILSA we would like to hear
from you.
