Rick Parry
responds to questions from fans on lfc.tv regarding the new ground proposals
1. There is scope for increasing capacity - 55,000 is not a figure
set in stone.
2. Corners of the ground may not be left open. This is the initial
design - again not set in stone. The plan is to improve the atmosphere
of Anfield - not deplete it.
3. There will be a Kop. The roof is a bit misleading as it gives the
impression of a bowl when actually one stand is bigger than the others.
The Kop will actually be bigger than the present one. Acoustics will
be looked into.
4. Changes can still be made to the design - in fact, architects have
already had some feedback and they will get more from the fans.
5. Liverpool will not put their financial future at risk by over-spending
on the stadium. Sensible option is to come up with a world class stadium
while still having the money to compete for world class players.
6. Anfield will be knocked down if new stadium goes ahead - but RP
hopes that a memorial gardens will take its place to honour those who've
had their ashes scattered on Anfield and also for those who lost their
lives at Hillsborough.
7. Will the stands be named? Quite possibly. Fans will have as much
input to the new stadium as possible.
8. It will be called Anfield. No commercial name for new stadium.
9. The seats will be as close to the pitch as they are now. It'll be
a traditional football stadium in that respect.
10. There will be concessions for kids - the idea of the new stadium
is to allow more people who want to see the team the opportunity to
do so.
